McGinnis Loy Associates is proud to be working with a well-known Top20 Accountancy Firm who are continuing to enjoy strong growth across their London & South East offices. They are now seeking a very strong technical and strategic Payroll Manager to join their team and take overall responsibility for all multiple client payrolls across the firm consisting of UK Ltd companies, partnerships and sole traders. Reporting to one of the Partners and supervising a team of 10+ staff, key duties include:

• Overall management of multiple payrolls for all third party client employees on a weekly, fortnightly and/or monthly basis
• Running a portfolio of the most complex payroll clients within the firm
• Ensuring the team have no errors in manual calculations of PAYE, NI, SSP, SMP, SPP and other payments when necessary (eg student loans, travel loans, expense payments)
• Providing advice to new and existing clients in relation to pension schemes and compliance to UK Legislation
• Providing contractual advice around new joiners, redundancy payments, dismissals, share schemes etc, being customer-facing as required
• Consulting with new clients regarding their payroll set-up, parallel runs, HMRC requirements, deadlines and commitments
• Managing and coaching a team of 10+ Payroll Clerks, including systems training and providing updates to legislative changes
• Dealing with all complex client enquiries, HMRC payroll queries and large-scale PAYE investigations
• Ensuring data accuracy around third party employee records, GDPR compliance, checking payroll updates and their input through the system
• Ensuring all RTI submissions are processed accurately and on time
• Ensuring all pay slips for clients are processed and overseeing the submission of pay slip files
• Overall management of the processing for all End Of Year payrolls in accordance with client contracts and HMRC guidelines (P45s, P46s, P38s etc)
• Reviewing payroll reports on a monthly basis with the Partner, ensuring reconciliation of client monies and audits are undertaken for data quality

To be considered for the role you should have experience of working in high-volume, multi-payroll environments with up to date knowledge of UK payroll regulations, year-end processes, staff management and providing advice to clients on payroll & pension legislation. Experience of RTI and pension auto-enrolment is essential, you should also be used to complex client payrolls and be able to motivate, recruit and develop a team of Payroll Supervisors and Clerks. Experience in another Accounting Firm or Payroll Bureau would be a distinct advantage, as would expertise in payroll systems such as Iris/Star, and a proven background in an advisory and strategic payroll capacity.
